Sunday schedule
Championship Flight
David Maloof and Steve Johnston (High Country) are still undefeated and will play Rick Wilhoite and Steve Summer (Meadows) in one semifinal. #2 and #3 block finishers Jeff & Eileen Soo (Stoneridge) and Danny Huneycutt — Tommy Harrington (Meadows) meet in the other semifinal. Both games are 8:30 at GGCC.
The final will be at 12:30 at GGCC.
First Flight
The final, 10:15 at GGCC, is Jeff Brinkley — Tom Yates (Meadows) vs. Bill Hartmann — Mark Kaylor (High Country). Both reached the final via exciting one-point wins in the semifinals, Brinkley — Yates over locals Bill Denton — Bill Taft, Hartmann — Kaylor over fellow High Country players Marty Ormsby — Ruthie Windsor-Mann.
Second Flight
The semifinals, both 8:30 at Linville Ridge: Marc “Soup” Campbell — Jerry Tysinger vs. fellow Meadows players Danna Huneycutt — Rhonda Summer, and Mike Swartz — Matthew Essick (Meadows) vs. Pam Johnston — Michael Grasley (High Country). The final is 10:15 at Linville Ridge.
Third Flight
One semifinal has been moved to Sunday 8:30 at Eseeola (one of the players was ill today): Myron Blackmer — Cary Williams (High Country) vs. Barbara Hayworth — Bill Rinaman (Pinehurst). The winners meet Butch Noe — John Lancaster (High Country) in the final, 10:15 at GGCC.
Penwell Trophy standings
There is still all to play for, at least for Meadows and High Country. Meadows is guaranteed 15 points while High Country is guaranteed 16 points. While there are many key matchups, one of the most important may well be the remaining Third Flight semifinal. For the first time in many years Meadows Mallet Club does not have an overwhelming advantage going into the final day. In fact, High Country seems to have a slight edge, not just in the guaranteed number of points, but based on current form in those key matches.
