Bill Berne (Bald Head Island, NC) won the singles title at the 2005 USCA Seniors Championship, for players 60 and older, held November 16–20 at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach, FL. He and his wife Billie Jean also placed second in doubles.

Berne’s title hopes looked in grave doubt at one point in the semi-finals. Opponent Matt Baird had gained a 25-2 lead with little time remaining. This was on Saturday night, shortly before the game was pegged down due to darkness. On Sunday morning Berne played two flawless turns to win 26-25 and advance the the final, where he beat John Hunter 21–14.
