Danny Huneycutt was the best of the bunch at the second annual Carolina Challenge. The international-rules tournament, a low-key invitational sponsored by Gene Young, was held at Etowah over Memorial Day weekend. Huneycutt won nine of his ten games, including wins over NC tough guys Bob Cherry, Mack Penwell, Paul Scott and Jeff Soo. He also completed four triple peels.

The players marvelled at the quality of the Etowah lawns. In particular, the new lawn (installed last year) was simply perfect.
