In response to criticism from players that conditions have been too easy at previous NC Opens, the tournament organizers have decided to set all hoops to negative clearance for this year’s tournament.

“Croquet at the top level has been justly criticized for being insufficiently interactive,” says Croquet NC President Danny Huneycutt. “We think we have hit on just the right solution” in setting the hoops so that they are nearly impossible to run in the usual way. A jump shot will be the only reliable way to score most hoops.

“Not only will the games be more fun for the players, but the entertainment value for spectators will also be high,” adds Huneycutt. “Rank-and-file players love to see top players clanging off hoops.”

Because it is expected that triple peels will be impossible, the Biscuit Barrel trophy—traditionally awarded to the player who completes the most triple peels—will instead be awarded to the player who completes the longest four-ball break.
