NC v E. Canada wrapup

The inaugural North Carolina-Eastern Canada Challenge was held at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club, March 29–31. While the weather was cold and blustery, the competition and camaraderie were just the opposite—team and regional spirit ran hot. All players contributed and had a fantastic time.

The teams consisted of eight members each: four “A” players, 2 “B” players, and 2 “C” players. Forty-four games were contested over the three day tournament. There was no weighting of wins, therefore a win at level “B” or “C” counted the same toward the team total as a win at level “A”.

After day one, North Carolina led Eastern Canada 9-7. Day two showed the margin increase to 20-12, in favor of North Carolina. At the beginning of day three, North Carolina needed only three wins to clinch the tournament. After the singles round, North Carolina had an unassailable lead of 23-17. Thus the Hi-Low doubles in the final round were “just for fun”. Eastern Canada won 7 games and NC won 5 games on day three. The final score: North Carolina 25, Eastern Canada 19.
