The USCA Southeast Regional Championship returned to Pinehurst, and local players took many of the top honors. In Championship Flight, Pinehurst club member Bob Cherry won the singles, while Ron Lloyd—Director of Lawn Sports at Pinehurst—partnered with Bill Aden of Mississippi to win the doubles. Lloyd also won the Golf Croquet singles.
This was Cherry’s second regional singles title. As with his previous win, in 2001, he faced Bill Berne in the final. Cherry has also won three regional doubles titles.
Pinehurst members Bob Morgan and Jack Stevens were the surprise runners-up in Championship doubles. They eliminated tournament favorites Cherry and Danny Huneycutt in the semi-final round.
In First Flight, Pinehurst members Horace Hayworth and Bob Whitmore won the doubles, and Hayworth won the singles.
This was the largest Southeast Regional ever, with over eighty players playing on eight lawns at four venues in the Pinehurst area.
